Cooking Tips & Tricks  BACK TO HOMEPAGE

Hood® Cottage Cheese is a convenient and versatile protein-packed ingredient you can use to create an array of delicious and nutritious dishes. Hood Cottage Cheese, including Country Style, Low Fat, No Salt Added Low Fat, and Fat Free, can easily substitute for higher-fat cheeses, such as whole milk mozzarella, whole milk ricotta, and cheddar. Ounce for ounce, Hood Cottage Cheese has more protein, and 40% fewer calories and 70% less fat than those higher-fat cheeses, and it typically costs less, too.

Here are some tasty tips for using Hood Cottage Cheese:

  • Stir two teaspoons of your favorite preserves into 1 cup of cottage cheese and enjoy as a snack or as part of a meal.
  • Enjoy cottage cheese fresh out of the package with fruit.
  • Mix 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with fresh or dried herbs and heap on top of a baked potato.
  • Munch on flavored mini rice cakes topped with cottage cheese.
  • Place 1 cup cottage cheese in a blender or food processor. Add fresh or dried herbs, such as basil and parsley, and one teaspoon horseradish. Spread a thick piece of country bread with the cottage cheese mixture and layer with lean sliced roast beef.
  • Try cottage cheese in your favorite recipes, including Spinach Dip, Cheesy LasagnaChicken & Cheese Enchiladas and Cheesy Cheesecake
  • Blend 2 cups cottage cheese with 1 cup thick and chunky salsa and serve with baked tortilla chips or toasted whole wheat pita bread chips.
  • To boost protein, stir cottage cheese into warm or cold pasta dishes, such as pasta salad or spaghetti with marinara sauce.
  • Skip cream cheese in favor of cottage cheese on top of your morning bagel, English muffin, or toast.
  • Pack corn muffins with additional protein. Start with two 8½-ounce packages of corn muffin mix. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup Hood 1% Lowfat milk, 1 cup Hood Cottage Cheese, and 2 eggs; using an electric mixer, blend for 2 minutes. Stir in ½ cup cooked corn. Add corn muffin mix and stir until just blended. Bake as directed.
  • Pump up your pancakes: Place 1 cup Hood Cottage Cheese in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. In a medium bowl, combine cottage cheese, 1 egg, and ½ cup Hood Milk; mix well. Add 1 cup pancake mix and stir until just moist. Cook as directed.
